Meta has implemented layoffs within its Reality Labs division, impacting teams associated with virtual reality hardware and in-house gaming.
A Meta spokesperson confirmed the job cuts but did not disclose how many employees were let go. People familiar with the matter revealed that the layoffs affected Oculus Studios, Meta’s internal game studio for its Quest headsets, and teams working on VR hardware. The changes also affected Supernatural, a high-profile VR fitness app Meta acquired for over $400 million in 2021.
In a message posted on Supernatural’s official Facebook group, the team acknowledged the loss of “incredibly talented team members” who helped build the platform and engage its loyal community. While the restructuring means fewer weekly workout releases, the company announced the rollout of multi-intensity workouts to better serve users’ varied fitness levels. Popular existing workouts will also be retrofitted with multiple intensity options.
Meta Stresses Continued Focus on VR Experiences
“These changes are meant to help Studios work more efficiently on future mixed reality experiences for our growing audience,” said Meta spokesperson Tracy Clayton. “We remain committed to investing in mixed reality experiences, including fitness and games, and our drive to deliver the best experiences possible for the Quest and Supernatural communities remains unchanged.”
